Overheard

The other day as we were putting on her tights the Nugget said the tights "would protect her feet". I didn't know she knew the word protect so I asked her where did she learn such a big word. Withougt hesitating she replied "Caillou". Who says TV isn't educational these days??

The Nugget and I were having a chat a couple of weeks ago about bugs. I don't want her to be afraid of bugs (healthy respect, maybe) so I take any chance I get to have her hold a worm, or a cricket, or whatever. She usually complies but is afraid of bees (because other kids she knows freak out when they see them). I was trying to reason with her while sitting on the steps of our deck.

Nugget: "I like ladybugs, spiders (but not webs), worms and crickets."
Me: "Yeah, and since you like all of those other bugs you can like bees".
Nugget: "No, YOU can like bees"

And that was that.

Queen for a Day?

The Nugget had something special planned for me on my birthday so I would look 'pretty as a princess' (her words, not mine)

New Tricks

Hankles is in the 90-something %-ile for length and weight as of his last check-up a few days ago. A tank for sure and he is growing up so fast. His favorite hobby is still watching and laughing at whatever his big sister is doing.

He will now clap, make kiss noises, "touchdown"/"so big", sign for milk and wave good bye on command. He is trained ... for now :-)

He gets in a good plank position and makes his way to all fours, rocks back and forth, and then either falls on his belly or finds a way to go backwards. No bona fide crawling yet but he is hurky jerk away from making it happen. Rolling around is still the preferred mode of transport.

Despite a bit of stranger danger he is a smiley, happy go lucky baby boy and soon, yes, very soon, we are hopeful to achieve the elusive accomplishment of sleeping through the night. Come on Henry, we know you can do it!

Just me and my boy ...

Today started and ended essentially the same way ... Henry was in my arms asleep and we got some good cuddle time. I don't get to have as many cuddly moments with Henry as I had with Liana - schedules just don't allow for it. I am usually occupying Liana in the morning and responding to "DADDY!" when I walk through the door a night- a greeting that makes me feel like the most important person in the world. Then, after dinner and a little playtime with each of them I am giving the Nugget a tub while mama is feeding Henry and putting him to bed.

As a result, I don't get to put him to bed very often whereas I used to put Liana to bed almost every night when she was a baby. Well this morning Henry woke up REAL early and he thought he was ready to party ... I brought him downstairs so mama could sleep and he was a bit animated for about 10 or 15 minutes or so. I decided to wrap him in his blanket and lie down with him on the couch. After a little bit of coaxing he fell fast asleep - and so did I. We slept for almost 1 hour before mama and the Nugget came downstairs. When I got home from work, mama had an appointment to go to so I was full on daddy duty. While Liana watched Strawberry Shortcake on the DVD I changed Henry Boy into his PJ's, gave him a bottle, and he fell asleep in my arms. He let me put him peacefully in his crib. What a great day.
